On Saturday, July 17th between 11 and noon, there was a Ceremony of Conscious Convergence held at the Sun Circle.

This local event is part of a global effort to unite all seekers to envision a positive evolution in our shared future. The event is timed to the entrance into the ninth wave of the Mayan calendar.

Don Orne conducted the ceremony, using his symphonic peace gong to honor the directions in space and time.  Participants drummed and shared in a guided meditation celebrating the elements.

The lovely tree right on the edge of the park is a tamarisk, or saltcedar, tree which was planted six years ago and has flourished in spite of alternating floods and drought.  Bees love it!

Hands Across the Sand

The CIA and HealthLink joined a nation-wide demonstration against new oil drilling and

towards a national policy of conservation and clean renewable energy for a sustainable future.

There were petitions and postcards

to our elected officials to know of our concern for an

energy policy that builds a green future.

Summer Solstice June 21 2010 - a crowd gathered for the spectacular sunrise at the northmost position on the horizon - and another crowd came two hours later for the actual moment of the solstice when the earth's northern axis points right at the  sun.

The sun rose on the summer solstice just inside the niche carved in the plinth
which was, on the circle, 32 degrees north of due east.  KHKrena photograph

Just before sun rise, the sky was spectacular! KHKrena photograph

The CIA was established in 1934 with gifts of land which are now used for parking.
In 1993, a generous gift of additional land was given by  the Blodgett family. This land, which connects with Preston Beach, is now known as Beach Bluff Park and is enjoyed by everyone who passes by or stops to visit.

In the spring of 2007, the wall protecting the park from the sea was destroyed by a storm. A new wall, with stairs down to the beach, has been constructed which will protect the Park as well as the avenue from being flooded during storms.

The new Park hosts a spectacular, educational, Sun Circle to be installed in August.
